Warhol, Picasso, Chagall … Def Leppard? The British hard rockers will indeed join the company of some of the world’s greatest artists next month with an exclusive exhibit at Martin Lawrence Galleries in The Forum Shops of Caesars Palace.
In honor of the band’s upcoming residency at the Hard Rock Hotel, the gallery will display 10 original works by drummer Rick Allen from March 22 through April 10. Titled “Electric Hand: Rhythm + Change,” Allen’s debut collection features abstract multimedia images exploring how the rhythms of Allen’s drum patterns translate onto canvas.

What would a picture of your favorite song look like? The ‘Art Of Drums’ can finally answer that question. It is a collection of fine art spearheaded by creativity house SceneFour in collaboration with ten of the world’s greatest drummers.
On July 22, the ‘Art Of Drums’ collection featuring former Guns ‘n Roses/Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum will premiere a groundbreaking method of capturing percussion on canvas.
How it’s done
Hundreds of drum bursts are recorded, reduced to light impulses, digitized, evaluated by several photographers, graphic artists and all under the direction of the music artist.
An experienced team of creatives spends over 100 hours creating a unique product mammoth in size, stunning in composition. SceneFour creative director Cory Danziger states:
‘This is something different than what people are used to seeing. It’s a new medium. It’s not acrylic or oil, it’s light and color and sound captured. The rhythm is on display for you to see.”
Following Matt Sorum’s release will be drum art collections releases by ten of of the world’s best drummers.
Rick Allen of Def Leppard, Stephen Perkins of Jane’s Addiction, Frankie “Kash” Waddy of Parliament/Funkadelic and six other mystery drummers are each creating individual collections of 100 epic-sized canvases to be released every other month for 20 months.
Each drummer will release ten different pieces, each of which will be presented in ten one-of-a-kind drafts, all numbered and signed.

Velvet Revolver’s Matt Sorum Launches Art Collection

Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum recently unveiled an art collection, using drumsticks as his muse.
Sorum used his drumsticks to create a series on canvas. The pieces study both the rhythm of light and performance.
“I never considered myself an artist in that form until it was brought to my attention that it could be done,” Sorum said in a recent interview. “You know the sticks relate to brush strokes… Great artists have a different feel from each other, nobody is similar, everyone has a different take on things and it comes through in the movement.”
There are a total of five different visual pieces in the collection to choose from. Of these, there will be 130 drafts for sale and those will be signed and numbered.

Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen announces the debut of his fine art collection entitled, Electric Hand: Rhythm + Change. The collection will be released on Wednesday, April 18 exclusively at RickAllenArt.com. Allen worked with L.A. creativity house SceneFour to translate rhythm into visual art. The result is a collection of abstract imagery built directly from the artists’ rhythmic prowess. “The collection reveals something that up until recently I didn’t even know existed, transforming sound into light,” says Allen about his work. With this debut, Allen is holding true to a lifetime of breaking barriers, from overcoming the loss of his left arm and forging ahead with Def Leppard to the height of the band’s successes to the founding of The Raven Drum Foundation, an organization focused on serving, educating, and empowering veterans and people in crisis.

Rick Allen became involved in philanthropic efforts with his wife and musician Lauren Monroe after losing his left arm in an automobile accident.
